I couldn’t let the recent eclipse pass without an attempt at capturing it.  I considered traveling to the path of totality but quickly decided against that.  Maybe in 2044 :)

These photos were taken about 20 east of Santa Margarita at the junction of Hwy 58 and Shell Creek Rd.  This is an area known for spring wildflowers.  The flowers were OK this year but not like last year.  It was surprising how many people were out there to see flowers and had no clue that an eclipse was in progress.  I did talk with some people who had experience shooting a few, or several, total eclipses.  

Clearly I took some artistic license with these compositions.  I used two cameras with different focal length lenses, aimed in the same direction.  There was a 2 hour, 10 minute time span between the first and last sun image.
The second image is the same set of suns just enlarged with the black background.
