CASTING A SHADOW

In December I was able to photograph in Death Valley National Park.  Because of the season, the sun was relatively low in the sky, even mid morning.  This gave more time to photograph with interesting shadows.  My initial intent was to compose this photo on the “S” curves and the shadow made by the bowl to the left.  As I was composing the frame I saw the shadow produced by the bush.  The position of the camera to the bush makes it look almost like a small tree.  The contrast between the vast, smooth dunes and the solitary bush emphasizes the isolation and expansiveness of the desert environment.
